Homemade Hoisin Sauce

5 Tbs tamari sauce
1 whole orange
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
2 Tbs almond butter
1 tsp tomato paste
1 tsp honey
1 tsp toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp ginger root
grated, thumb size knob of fresh ginger
1 clove garlic
grated, about 1 tsp
1/2 tsp Chinese five spice powder
1/2 tsp chili flakes
This sauce has a great balance of sweet, sour and salty flavors. It's a great stir fry sauce and glaze for baked tofu. Play around with the ingredients and adjust it to your taste. You can make it spicy by adding fresh chilis or a good chili sauce.
Simmer all ingredients together on low heat for about 5 minutes.
